The work for brass quintet by Thomas Stevens, Igor’s Dance has been recorded by students of Edward Carroll at the Schulich School of Music, McGill University (Montreal): Scott Reynolds and Ryan Cole (trumpet), Xavier Fortin (horn), Keith Dyrda (trombone) and Douglas Sutton (tuba).
Vartan Adjemian in Switzerland
Armenian composer Vartan Adjemian will be in attendance at the first performance of his work «Adventure» for alto saxophone and orchestra at the Salle de Musique de la Chaux-de-Fonds (Switzerland) on June 29th at 19:30, the occasion being the closing ceremony of the Conservatoire de Musique de Neuchâtel.
2010 Harvey G. Phillips Awards
«Adamastor» for 2 tubas and orchestra (or chamber orchestra or with percussion) by Portuguese composer Andreia Pinto-Correia was nominated for the final round of the 2010 Harvey G. Phillips Awards for excellence in composition.
Fritz Hauser joins Editions Bim
Swiss percussionist Fritz Hauser, who also expresses his creativity in fields like architecture and composing just signed for a serie of nine works with Editions Bim.
Editions Bim Prize
End of March 2010, French violist Adrien La Marca was awarded the Editions Bim Prize (250£ Sterling) for the best performance of Sonatine I for viola solo by Roger Steptoe, the required piece in the first round of the International Lionel Tertis Competition for Viola 2010, in Port Erin, Isle of Man.
Ballade for horn
Composer Roger Steptoe was inspired to write a Ballade (c. 10’) for horn and orchestra (2 oboes, 2 horns, percussion). A first reading of the work was organized by Editions Bim in February 2010 featuring horn soloist, Bruno Schneider.
